Com estudiar la diversitat eucariòtica

Títol: More than meets the eye: eukaryotic diversity through the lense of metabarcoding and metagenomics

Among the three domains of life, the eukaryotic division has reached the major complexity in the multicellular lineages. For many centuries, land plants, animals and fungi were considered the key players of the ecosystemic game. The advent of the so-called “molecular approaches” has brought the upside down in our understanding of eukaryotic diversity by revealing the true richness and abundance of unicelular eukaryotes in the environment; what was previously considered as a minority turned out to be the absolute majority. During this talk, we will explore the possibilities and the limitations of metabarcoding and metagenomics, two culture-independent high-throughput approaches that are widely implemented to gain insights into the extant eukaryotic diversity.
