Hyacinth of Peru

El NAT Les seus Hyacinth of Peru

Nom científic
Scilla peruviana
Procedència
West Mediterranean and North Africa

Also known as: Portuguese squill, Cuban-lily.

Despite its scientific name peruviana, “of Peru ”, this species is a native of the Mediterranean. The confusion was created because the species arrived in England from Spain on a boat called “Peru” .

This herbaceous plant is larger than most Scilla and it has a flowering stem that bears dense pyramidal racemes of 40-100 showy violet-blue flowers. As a result, it is widely cultivated as an ornamental plant.
