This genus of flowering trees and shrubs is well known for the unmistakable aroma of its leaves. There are over 800 species, most of which are native to Australia, although they can now be found in many habitats and in many forms.
Due to their fast growth, they are cultivated all around the world for industrial use, for gardening and for forest plantations. There is concern, however, that they impoverish the soil and consume too much water.
