Our #FossilFriday is for....: Anisoria vidali

Given the multiple functions they perform, corals are vital organisms in marine ecosystems.

The #syntype of the species Anisoria vidali (specimen nº MGB 2121-03) belongs to the group of the Scleractinia, also known as the hard or stony corals. They build a hard skeleton composed of calcium carbonate and are most frequent in tropical seas.

This fossil is from the Upper Campanian (around 75 mA) from Isona i Conca Dellà (Lleida), which indicates that the climate and geography of that area was once very different from today.
