The Asociación de Museos y Centros de Ciencia y Técnica de España ( Spanish Association of Museums and Science and Technology Centres, AMCCTE) was formally established in December 2016, although its members had commenced work on its articles and bylaws as early as 2007.

The mission of the AMCCTE is to promote an interest in and understanding of the importance of science, technology, research and innovation among the public by fostering their involvement and participation through collaboration between AMCCTE members.

Membership, composed of both public and private institutions, includes natural history museums, science and technology museums, botanical gardens, aquariums, planetariums and similar organisations.

The Natural Sciences Museum of Barcelona (MCNB) has been a member from the outset and Anna Omedes, MCNB director, is the president of the AMCCTE Board.

The AMCCTE’s specific aims are as follows:

  • To foster a scientific and technical culture and raise awareness of the impact of science and technology on people’s daily lives
  • To forge links between the public and science and technology by facilitating people’s inclusion and participation in scientific and technical debates
  • To raise the level of excellence of science, technology and innovation
  • To highlight scientific research as a driver of social progress
  • To act as an interlocutor with public bodies regarding scientific and technical communication matters
  • To promote mechanisms of communication and collaboration between R+D+i agents (research centres, companies, universities) so as to draw attention to their work and achievements and to publicly recognize the efforts of their staff
  • To represent and defend the interests of its members, provide services and foster partnerships and alliances
  • To collaborate with similar bodies at the international level
  • To encourage collaboration between individuals and groups belonging to its members with a view to sharing knowledge, ideas and skills
  • To facilitate the exchange of resources between members
  • To provide support in the form of information, advice, good practices, etc to members.
