The collection resources are held in the four Museum buildings: zoology in the Laboratori de Natura (Nature Laboratory, Castell dels Tres Dragons building), and geology and palaeontology in the Museu Martorell (Martorell Museum) both of which buildings are located in Ciutadella Park. The botanical collections are held at the Institut Botànic de Barcelona (Botanical Institute of Barcelona) —a combined CSIC/Ajuntament de Barcelona (Scientific Research Council/Barcelona City Council) research centre— and in the Jardí Botànic (Botanical Garden) on Montjuïc. The collections are noted for being subject to continuous, active, scientific consultation by researchers from universities and research centres. The scientific consultations take place at the Museum facilities by prior appointment with the curator in charge (see section on scienctific departments). The collections are also used in exhibitions and other cultural activities, either here or at other museums and cultural centres. Online consultation of the collections The catalogued and computerised resources are available on this site’s collections browser. As the Museum collections become computerised, they are incorporated into international databases. In the case of zoology, botany and palaeontology, the information is open to consultation through the GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility) portal.
