The zoological collections (non-arthropod invertebrates, arthropods and vertebrates) are consulted each year by biologists, palaeontologists and physicians who work on national and international research projects. The main areas of work include the study and monitoring of biodiversity, aspects of evolution, eco-ethology and ecology. The Tissue Bank, which conserves samples of zoological collections suitable for extracting genetic material is being increasingly used. The Naturaleza Sonora sound library contains recordings of sounds of nature, which are used in different areas of activity of the Museum.
