Monsieur Ardan is the pseudonym used by one of the most fascinating and mysterious travellers of the nineteenth century. A tireless expeditionary, Monsieur Ardan was an authority in many disciplines, such as photography, literature, drawing, botany, science and aeronautics.
This exhibition takes an introspective look at society, science and culture in the nineteenth century, based on material coming from private and institutional sources. Only part of Monsier Ardan´s work is available for display, however, as much of his legacy was destroyed by a fire at his home, Château d’Eau, in Brittany, France.
Research into his life and work continues today.
