Every year, the “Ranking of the World Scientists: World’s Top 2% Scientists” database from Stanford University is published, which highlights the most relevant scientists in the world according to the citations received in their publications.
Thus, Carles Lalueza, director of the Museum and researcher of the Institut de Biologia Evolutiva (CSIC – UPF), and Joan Carles Senar, head of research of the Museum, are part of this list of the most influential researchers of 2023 at a global level. This database, developed by Stanford University and published by Elsevier BV, analyzes information from Scopus, which classifies journals and provides a citation index. It is based on updated data in 2023 of 223,152 scientists who make up the 2% most cited in the world in 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields.
Lalueza is a specialist in DNA recovery techniques from remains of the past, in phylogenetic reconstruction of extinct species, in reconstruction of past migrations in human populations and in evolutionary genetics. Senar, for his part, is an expert in the adaptation of birds to global change and evolutionary ecology.
Being part of this list is a recognition of contributions to science and in short of excellence in research, thus increasing the reputation and visibility of the scientists themselves and of the institution to which they belong.
