The Hivernacle in the Parc de la Ciutadella reopened its doors in December 2023, after thorough renovations to restore its original appearance from the time of the Universal Exhibition of 1888.
This is a unique structure and an outstanding example of cast-iron architecture in the city. The comprehensive refurbishment – in a clear example of the care and rigour with which the building has been restored from a heritage point of view –revealed that the decorative elements are the work of Alexandre de Riquer i Anglada, one of the most renowned artists of Catalan Modernisme.
