{"id":15863,"date":"2014-01-31T08:46:14","date_gmt":"2014-01-31T08:46:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/museuciencies.cat\/qui-som\/el-museu\/presentacio\/"},"modified":"2025-08-27T13:16:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-27T11:16:09","slug":"presentation","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/museuciencies.cat\/en\/the-nat\/what-we-are\/presentation\/","title":{"rendered":"Presentation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Museu de Ci\u00e8ncies Naturals de Barcelona (Natural Science Museum of Barcelona) is an institution founded over 140 years ago whose natural heritage collections in the fields of mineralogy, petrology, palaeontology, zoology and botany comprise more than four million specimens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This valuable heritage has been enriched year by year thanks to specimens obtained through donations from private individuals, agreements with the Zoo and Catalonia&#8217;s natural parklands, and also through the Museum&#8217;s own research work.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Museum centres<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Natural Sciences Museum of Barcelona is housed in different buildings located in three strategic areas of the city: Ciutadella Park, Montju\u00efc Park and the Forum Park.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The first of these sites is home to the Centre Martorell d&#8217;Exposicions (Martorell Centre of exhibitions), the Hivernacle ( Greenhouse)) and the building known as Castell dels Tres Dragons, while Montju\u00efc is home to the Jard\u00ed Bot\u00e0nic (Botanical Garden) and the Jard\u00ed Bot\u00e0nic Hist\u00f2ric (Historic Botanical Garden).
