{"id":15504,"date":"2014-01-31T09:34:21","date_gmt":"2014-01-31T09:34:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/museuciencies.cat\/area-cientifica\/departaments-cientifics\/petrologia\/"},"modified":"2026-06-11T14:03:51","modified_gmt":"2026-06-11T12:03:51","slug":"petrology","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/museuciencies.cat\/en\/science\/scientific-departments\/petrology\/","title":{"rendered":"Petrology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For over 100 years now, the Petrology Department has been working to serve society by managing and conserving the collection, carrying out research, as well as disseminating information and promoting the museum, both ethically and professionally.<\/p>\n<p>With this aim in mind, the current team has carried out a meticulous inventory of the collection, has brought its conservation into line with today&#8217;s standards, and continues to study it. Furthermore, in the last few years the collection has been enriched with donations from the <strong>Peter Seroka<\/strong> and the <strong>R.D. Torr\u00f3<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/museuciencies.cat\/en\/science\/collections\/geological-collections\/petrological\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">collections<\/a> and the<strong> Jordi Valls<\/strong> sand collection. Meanwhile, in conjunction with the Mineralogy and Palaeontology departments, the databases have been expanded and updated, resulting in the creation of the PangeaDB\u00ae program.<\/p>\n<p>The petrological and historical study of the collection, and the scientific research carried out within the department, have resulted in scientific publications, both articles in scientific journals and presentations at conferences (see the publications tab below).<\/p>\n<p>A great improvement has also been made to the MCNB\u2019s didactic rock collection, and an informative guide to rocks has been created: \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/museuciencies.cat\/comunicacio\/publicacions\/divulgatives\/guia-de-roques\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Guia de roques: coneixements b\u00e0sics i activitats did\u00e0ctiques<\/em><\/a> (\u201cRock guide: basic knowledge and didactic activities\u201d).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For over 100 years now, the Petrology Department has been working to serve society by managing and conserving the collection, carrying out research, as well as disseminating information and promoting the museum, both ethically and professionally.
