Its specific epithet ferox comes from the Greek and means ferocious, referring to this plant’s sharp, spiny leaves.

Aloes have the virtue of preserving rainwater inside their leaves, allowing them to survive for long periods of time during drought conditions. Thanks to this property, the pulp of aloe leaves has traditionally been used to cure skin ailments, wounds and burns, and as a moisturiser.
